Unsane is a movie about a woman who moves away from her family to escape a stalker. When she unknowingly commits herself to a mental hospital by signing some forms when she sought counseling, our story gets interesting. The movie presents a Shutter Island-style plot where we aren’t sure if she’s actually insane. All signs point to the things happening to her being real, but who’s to say? It all leads to a thrilling & tense ending.

Plot aside, the most interesting aspect of this movie is that it was shot entirely on an iPhone 7. Yes you read that correctly- not even the most current Apple device. Steven Soderbergh is an accomplished director and just proved to the world that someone with talent can make a great movie without big budget movie equipment. I did know it was shot on a phone going into the theater but I quickly forgot about it because it was not distracting. It was just a knowledgeable filmmaker making a good movie.

I’m glad I got to see it in the theater, but you could probably get the same experience from home if you waited for a rental. The acting was solid and the story kept me engaged. Check this movie out.
